How it is calculated

  1. Assessment base = wealth + 20 × yearly pension income (for married couples, half of the couple’s total each).
  2. Contribution from the official 2026 table: the minimum below the first threshold, then a fixed step for every further CHF 50’000, up to the maximum.
  3. Total = yearly contribution × years until the reference age, if your wealth stays the same.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to pay if I retire early?

Yes, until the reference age, unless you still work enough or your working spouse pays at least twice the minimum for both of you.

Does my pension fund count as wealth?

No, not while it sits in the pension fund or a vested-benefits account. It counts once paid out. A pension-fund pension counts as income, times 20.

How do I register?

With the compensation office of your canton of residence. It sets provisional contributions from your tax return.
